Cheap Chicago tickets at the Phoenix Theatre

The Show

Chicago is bringing the real razzle-dazzle back to London! Winner of six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy, and now starring Academy Award-Winner Cuba Gooding Jnr in his West End stage debut, the sexiest, sassiest, most sophisticated Broadway musical in history is celebrating 21 years of standing ovations in style.

The dazzling multi-award-winning tale of nightclub singer Roxie Hart, her cell-block rival Velma Kelly and the smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn has thrilled audiences in London, Broadway and across the world from Mexico City to Moscow, from Sao Paulo to South Africa since 1996.

With the original Broadway choreography by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and a sizzling score featuring the classing songs “Razzle Dazzle”, “Cell Block Tango” and “All That Jazz”, Chicago is so good it should be illegal.

Don’t miss out, book now. It’d be a crime to miss it…

Nothing compares to the thrill you get from getting up-close-and-personal to the sights and sounds of a West End show in full flow, and Chicago is one of London’s best and most popular. On this page you’ll find images from Chicago and get a taste of what’s in store from this tantalising production.

Chicago is a musical set in the prohibition era, when murder itself proved to be an art. The story is a satire on corruption of the justice system and centres on Roxie Hart, a married chorus girl, who is trying to make it as a singer. She kills her lover in self-defence and finds herself in a bitter rivalry with femme fatale and ultimate ‘celebrity criminal’ Velma Kelly. Their lawyer, the slick and manipulative Billy Flynn, does his best to keep his clients from death row, all the while vowing to make them stars.

Take a sneak peak at this gallery featuring the current West End production of Chicago with Sarah Soetaert as Roxie Hart, Rachel McDowall as Velma Kelly and Raza Jaffrey as Billy Flynn.

With music written by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, Chicago originally premiered in the United Kingdom in London in 1979, running for approximately 600 performances. Following a revival on Broadway, Chicago reopened in London in November 1997 at the Adelphi Theatre.

The production has been staged at a number of theatres over the years, but it now calls The Garrick Theatre its home. With over 6000 performances, Chicago is the longest running Broadway transfer in the West End. A number of well known actresses and singers have played the part of Roxie Hart over the years including America Fererra, Ashlee Simpson, Brooke Shields and Michelle Williams.

We hope these pictures give you a flavour for the show and have whetted your appetite for Chicago. Have a fantastic time when you see it at the Garrick Theatre.

Venue Info

Phoenix Theatre

The Phoenix Theatre is situated on Charing Cross Road in the West End of London, close to Tottenham Court Road tube station. Built in 1930, this 1000 seat venue has been the site for Blood Brothers since 1991.

The first production at the Phoenix Theatre was Noel Coward’s classic comedy of manners Private Lives, which opened on September 24 1930. Among the countless notable  shows to have graced this venerable West End theatre’s stage since then are Love for Love, The Browning Version, The Canterbury Tales and Night and Day.

The site of the current theatre was originally occupied by a factory and subsequently a Music Hall. Today, the theatre enjoys consistent success and is especially well known for staging musicals, with major works by Steven Sondheim, Willy Russell and Stephen Swartz having played there over the years.

The Phoenix Theatre has had its share of ups and down over the years, as might be expected from any long-serving institution. Private Lives, its opening production, had been a huge success, ditto the production that followed it, Late Night Final.

However, despite this promising start the theatre quickly lost steam. It reopened as a variety hall, but the change of tack did little to reverse its ailing fortunes. It took the Master to set things on track again. Noel Coward returned to the Phoenix in 1936 and audiences duly came back in droves.

In the 1950s the theatre experienced a major triumph with Canterbury Tales, which ran for over 2000 performances. In more recent times, Blood Brothers, Willy Russell’s phenomenally successful  musical spin on the Corsican Brothers, transferred from the Noel Coward Theatre to the Phoenix in 1991 and ran until 2012.

We wish you an entertaining and rewarding visit to the Phoenix Theatre.
